"Parked just south of the Angeles Forest Hwy / Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Rd jct. At that point, a use trail accesses a firebreak going parallel to Angeles Forest Highway. The firebreak rides the ridge like a roller coaster with some big ups and downs. Peak 4459 is the high point on the ridge, and is just west of Monte Cristo Campground. Once reaching it, I returned the way I came. Despite being a random unnamed peak, It’s a great hike with great views!" — MikeTeeples • Apr 17, 2022
"My first hike of 2022 was a fun firebreak rollercoaster to this unnamed summit across Angeles Forest Hwy from Monte Cristo Campground. It was a quiet and peaceful day with a blanket of mostly mid level clouds, a few sprinkles oddly battling the desiccating effect of gusty Santa Ana winds! The winds along the upper part of the ridge gave off a refreshing chill to the air, and the views along the ridge are awesome. Beware of some VERY steep sections of the firebreak; it will be an inch-by-inch descent on each downhill pitch on the way back!! There are at least 4 false summits, so beware! The peak irself has at least a 240' dropoff after it, so if you reach a summit with a small dropoff behind it, it is a false summit and more work lies ahead.
I fooled myself into thinking I was at the peak TWICE!! The actual summit is a nice, pointy, pyramidal peak. The hike is approximately 3 miles round-trip with about 1,400' gain: 1,300' on the way out and 100' on the way back. Difficulty- moderate with some moderately strenuous sections due to poor footing- loose soil in steep pitches." — brianpowell • Jan 15, 2022
