"Back for revenge . Got everything with ease today. Feel silly for turning around the other day, DHP wasn’t bad at all. Everything on Wilson is well ducked and the traverse from WPP to Wilson is one of the best routes in red rock. WPP & DHP are optional, so even if you don’t want to do exposed climbing , you can still do this . Crux would be the second handline up white rock gully . Otherwise it’s the summit block at DHP.
Now as awesome as the Wilson traverse was that is about how AWFUL the other peaks were . Pretty much as soon as you branch off for first creek , it is just a loose nightmare really all the way to indecision peak , with the worst in between first creek and decision. I hated it . Took me way longer to go from first creek to indecision than it did to do the Wilson traverse .
Phone died at end so add another mile for car to car distance" — joshortman • Jun 1, 2023
"4.14.22~The Mighty Mt. Wilson, Red Rock Canyon, NV, 9 miles, 3,500’ gain in 5:54hrs Round Trip. My 2nd time up, 1st time using the First Creek route. Great scrambling workout. Super pretty. I was slowed down by a few navigation issues so I will definitely be back to tidy/tighten up my overall time…That was fun!" — paula.raimondi • Apr 14, 2022
"Much longer of a hike than I thought it was going to be. Scrambling and climbing over rocks while trying to stay on trail proved challenging at times while hiking through First Creek Canyon. Then once you're out of the canyon the steepness up to the top of the ridge is crazy! I don't have any other season to compare it to but I'd say it was extra challenging in summer with the sun fully out by that point. Overall it was a great hike, very challenging, with many lessons learned. Can't wait to tackle the next one!" — codyparks • Jul 17, 2021
"I would highly recommend doing this route with a group of experienced hikers. Do not go without going with other experienced hikers! I hiked in from Lovell Canyon Road. When I got to First Creek Overlook, it was downhill scree for a while. There was a Class 3+ move to get up and over a ledge before proceeding to the sandstone ascent of Mount Wilson. From there the views were wonderful and the day I went it was super windy! On the way back I went around the south side of First Creek Overlook. This was extremely dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. The rock was very loose in many places and the terrain was steep. I was fortunate myself to get off of the bank with no injuries. Coming back down after going around First Creek Overlook was a breeze and rather pleasant. The route I used was not cairned and I more or less navigated the terrain without following a set path. I wouldn't consider this a professional route by any means and I don't think it is well traversed to begin with. Proceed at your own risk. Again, do not hike alone and go with a group of experienced hikers. Play each step safe, use sound wisdom and have fun!" — LukeyPukey • Sep 28, 2019
"The idea was to get Paula the 3 more peaks she needed to get to 100 on peakery. Peakery says I've climbed Wilson 4x; actually I've been up 25x as of 2021. I'm not going to log 4000 peaks" — hwstock • Jan 5, 2018
"Harlan Stockman was nice enough to lead me on a hike today so I could get up to 100 new Peaks on my Summit list. It was a very tiring 10 mile, 4,200’ eg route from Lovell Canyon through rugged rocky washes, loose scree hills and carnivorous limestone ridges with scratchy brush and dead trees battering our bodies along the way. We bagged 1st Creek Overlook then went on to Mighty Wilson Peak, the highest Sandstone Peak in Red Rock, and to our surprise we ran into Mighty Barb Speckert on top! Bonus! We then battled back up to the ridge where at one point I was so entangled in some wicked shrubs I thought I’d never break free. With a quick break at the ridge we went on to Limestone Highpoint. I didn’t want to. I was on the ropes but I wanted that 100th Peak so I decided to deal with the suffering. This area felt remote to me so the whole way I had anxious thoughts.
I also earned the Ginsu Knife Club Cleaver! My 31 mile long run tomorrow is going to hurt." — paula.raimondi • Jan 5, 2018
"White Rock Gully up to White Rock Pinnacle, traversed over to Dead Horse Point, over to hidden bowl, up the right approach to Wilson South then over to Wilson, and finally back down via the standard route.
Easily the toughest hike I've done in the LV area.
RT: >8hrs, ~5000 cumulative elevation gain, ~10.5 miles" — jasonj • Oct 11, 2015
"Hiked from the back side. Was supposed to be Penny's last 52 Peak hike but since Rainbow was canceled the day before it wasn't. Still a great hike. A lot of fun. Hiked with Jennifer Hutchinson, Jennifer Jensen and Stephanie Chakmak. Returned along the spine to First Creak Overlook Peak. " — Rob_Keller • Sep 8, 2013
"Total epic. Probably the hardest solo I've ever done. Bluebird day but cold with snow and ice in First Creek Canyon. Spent a ton of time routefinding and moving gingerly to avoid slipping on the verglas on the sometimes huge boulders in the canyon. Thank god for the cairns, finding the next one was often the best feeling in the world. No one had been up there since Dec 16. Coming back down through the Canyon was a total slog. I need a beer." — scott • Jan 10, 2011
"The next day I had an appointment with my neurologist, who told me my balance was inexplicably good, after my brainstem stroke a bit more than a year before.
