"The previous day I had walked to the Rocky Creek bivvy. The climb proper commenced from the Rocky Creek track. The bush covered spur opposite the biv was followed to the southern end of the tussock tops. This section was quite rough in places or as they say in NZ jargon a bit of a bash. (Windthrow & heavy regeneration lower down & typical scrub higher up) I've struck much worse though! After 2hrs 15mins good going was reached on the main ridge south of the summit. It took another 30 mins to traverse the tussock & sparse low scrub to reach the summit. [a total of 2hrs 45mins from the bivvy & only 5 minutes of it on a marked track]
A long lunch was spent soaking up the views & taking a few photos.
Before descending I carried on to the northern extent of the tussock, headed east & then followed its eastern edge south back to where I'd hit the tops.
There were some excellent views from the McInerney tops!" — glennj • Mar 21, 2013
