"Starting off the year with a swing through northern San Diego County. I arrived at the trailhead at 9:30 and found cars parked all around the block. Obviously I wasn’t the only person with the day off! I made quick work of my visit by reaching the summit in 40 minutes. I then enjoyed the views on the way down." — MikeTeeples • Jan 1, 2020
"Today was supose to be a group hike up Cucamonga Peak via Icehouse Canyon. However, when I arrived at the trailhead after driving 1.5 hours to get there, I realized I left my hiking shoes at home. I wasn't about to hike in my slippers. So, I saw the crew off and headed home. Of course, I had to do something so once I got home I grabbed my shoes and headed out to my favorite local training hike Monserate Mountain. I think I did 2 loops today making it about a 10 mile day with about 4,000 feet in gain. Pretty close to what I would have had, had I did Cucamonga Peak as planned." — Philip-Yoho • Jul 28, 2018
"No better way to spend my July 4th morning than to summit my favorite local training hike. Monserate is also used as a 9/11 Memorial Hike in honor of those First Responders who lost their lives during and after the 9/11 attack." — Philip-Yoho • Jul 4, 2018

"A Birthday Sunrise Hike today. What a great morning it was. Made it to the summit before the sun came up. Kind of a foggy, low cloud morning though. So, I did two additional loops to catch the sun and sky break through at the higher elevation. Ended up with a 9+ mile day. I never went above 1600 feet in elevation, but my total elevation gain was almost double that." — Philip-Yoho • Aug 13, 2017
"Great training hike on my favorite local training trail. Today I did the reverse loop but added in a drop down to Rice Canyon and then back up. Monserate Mountain never disappoints no matter the route." — Philip-Yoho • Jan 23, 2016
