"I have to admit that I had my eye on this peak as soon as I saw that it was near the Columbine Campground, where we'd be staying for our Arc Dome hike the next day. It looked simple enough, only about a 500-700' gain. Well, it was simple enough, sort of? After nabbing a good campsite at the Columbine Campground, we drove back out and parked on a side spur road. I'd suggest for anyone else that they drive a bit farther down as there were two turn-offs closer to the saddle of the peak. The peak is fairly thickly brushy-forested, so we aimed for the low saddle and went up the side, which kept us out of the brush except for about 100-200' of distance (and about 50' of elevation). The top of Mahogany Mountain is a small boulder field, so there's some picking your way around and light scrambling. Lots of stair-stepping, but take care because of the amount of plants. The approach to the saddle was a maze of thick sagebrush, but also the most wonderful white low-slung wildflowers just carpeting the ground everywhere.
