"Day 4 of backcountry ski trip with Bell Lake Yurt guides Drew & Spencer. Lonesome Peak was the second climb of a huge day traversing the northern Tobacco Root Range. After hearty breakfast burritos we were off and skinning from the Bell Lake Yurt at 6:30am. Our previous day's skin track up ~1400 vert to the ridge of Long Mountain was frozen and fast. After a steep ski in chalk-pow conditions to the base of Lonesome Peak, we threw the skis on our backs and booted up ~1200 vert to the summit of Lonesome. From the summit we got our first views of the upcoming route for the day -- across to Granite Peak, then down the long valley to the big climb up Horse Peak and then Hollowtop, the highest in the Tobacco Roots. After taking in the views and a quick snack, we snapped into our skis and started a ski down to the base of Granite. No time to dawdle -- things were really starting to heat up." — scott • Apr 7, 2016
