"Another NEHH peak for Molly. There was logging slash everywhere down low. It really sucked. We managed to discover the herd path and would be on it off and on. We reached the summit and had more people join us there. Busy day on the mountain with 4 groups totaling 8 people out. " — newenglandwarrior • Sep 2, 2023
"Thought this would be an easy hike after the Baxter loop the day before. The road to elephant mountain was closed 2 miles before the bushwhack starts which added four miles to the day. I had a very difficult time following the herd path. On the way up I bushwhacked without really being on the herd path at all. On the way down I was able to follow the herd path for a portion of time. Got scratched up during the hike, but knocked another off the NEHH list. " — LGH-Tom • Aug 15, 2021
"What a gut buster. 2.5 miles and it took almost 5 hours!!! Slash, slash, slash, and more slash!!!! Dead reckoning got us out exactly where we entered the forest. #93 for me on the NE 100 Highest list." — goshen-bagger • Jul 14, 2020
"Part of a group hike. Doug and I along with 9 others made a successful attempt on Elephant. GPS tracks helped out immensely. After this hike, Doug proposed the idea of a night hike of the Saddlebacks. We made the attempt and were successful. Wind chill was rough up there but it was beautiful seeing Rangeley lit up. Full moon and clear skies helped. " — newenglandwarrior • Feb 17, 2019
"With the recent(?) logging, the standard route to Elephant seemed a bit harder to follow. Instead of an obvious herd path up the col, there were hit or miss sections. Above the col it was all bushwhack, but in open forest. Managed to stumble across some slash, which made the last bit a little easier. Got pretty soaked from the rain." — robertocampo • May 30, 2017
"Hiked with AMC group of 4 other people. Latest in the season hike I've ever done. Light amount of snow at the top, which leaving a trail helped us get back down. Having done it previously, did a lot of the leading to get to the top." — newenglandwarrior • Nov 3, 2013
