"Last hike of the big 10-day southwest road trip! We picked a new to me loop in Saguaro NP that coincidentally had 2 easy peaks and one "Kevin" peak with slight bushwhacking. Ken joined me for the 2 easy peaks, I was the silly one scrambling up a hill for Amole Peak. Beautiful day! A little breezy at times, but just such a gorgeous day. So glad to end 2023 with hiking, and looking forward to more hiking and resuming peakbagging in 2024!" — psychikingjes • Dec 30, 2023
"Pretty popular trail out in Tucson AZ. Therefore, a bit too crowded for my taste. Good views of the city though!

"My brother and I started at 4:45 am and made it to the summit in about 3:50. The trail was in good condition and only had some overgrowth in places and was pretty easy to follow. " — ZachTeich • Jun 15, 2023
"I hopped on the trail from the Miller Creek trailhead at 0737, arriving to the Saguaro Park line at 0804. On the way to the park line I intercepted a few foxes chasing a rabbit. They circled me for a bit and then ran away; cute and fat critters they are! I made it to Happy Valley around 0921, which was fairly flat, but once you hit the Rincon peak trail, it is all uphill. I enjoyed stunning views of Mica Mountain, Helen's Dome, and Tanque Verde peaks from the "staircase" ascending Rincon. I caught my first close glimpse of Rincon around 1001 ahead of a draw and made the slow last 1.5 miles from there to the summit, which took a full hour. I reached the summit by 1101, stayed on top and ate lunch for 30 mins, before cruising down and reaching my car at 1425. The summit was spectacular and well worth the adventure. It's no pun intended, the "capstone" hike of Southern AZ as you can see almost every noteworthy peak from the summit vista on a clear day like mine, including Mt. Lemmon, Mica Mountain, Mt. Wrightson, Miller Peak, Apache Peak, Chiricahua Peak, and Mt. Graham. The last 0.3 miles before the trailhead I nearly stepped on a rattlesnake, which was not happy to see me. "I started the hike at 0732 after arriving at the Kings Canyon Trailhead parking lot. The lot is sizeable, hosting upwards to 20 cars, but there were only 8 or so when I showed up. I stayed to the right, hiking in the kings canyon wash for the first half hour, where it was pleasant and shaded, but the sand under my feet slowed my usual fast tempo. I made it to the summit in 1 hour and 10 minutes, reaching at 0832 and spent 15 minutes taking photos and enjoying the view. The temperature and sun made the long stay somewhat uncomfortable, so I headed over to Amole peak shortly thereafter, scrambled to the top, before hopping down and returning to the parking lot. Amole peak is probably a haven for rattle snakes given the amount of rocks there, but I did not see any, fortunately. I had to bushwhack, scramble, and route find on that peak too.
I made it back to my vehicle by 1029 to make it just under 3 hours round trip, with probably about 45 minutes of breaks or climbing random rock scrambles that I saw. " — mchikes • Oct 4, 2020
