"Camped in large flat area on top of YMCA, drive to end of road and traversed northwest ridge near gorge. Travel down and up valley barely any snow some loose scree, some large boulders. Found summit cairn and returned via marked, worn trail. Nice 50 degrees had some 20+ mph winds on summit and ridges. Love this mountain but would definitely recommend traveling on trail if not in decent shape. Route down into valley offers some difficult, steep terrain. Lots of bighorn sign some bear and mountain lion signs also." — SladeNMak • Jan 4, 2014
"Beautiful day for early February - tee shirt weather and almost no snow. Accessed peak via Stultz Trail. Trail is more enjoyable than either Tanner Trail or Bear Gulch Trail, although the views are much better from Tanner Trail. Great day of hiking." — paulmedved • Feb 5, 2013
"Very strenuous hike but pleasant for January. Almost no snow on trail and tee-shirt weather on top. Tried to summit last week, but spent so much time taking photos from lower outcroppings to the north west of the peak, that I never summited. At lower elevations of the trail, the views of Pikes Peak, Canon City and the Royal Gorge and Grand Canyon Hills are quite spectacular. The final third of the trail is buried in trees until the meadows on top of the Wet Mountains are reached. The views of the Wet Mountain Valley and the Sangres along the final stretch of the trail are stunning. Viewing the Sangres from atop the Wet Mountains never gets old - one of the most breathtaking views that I've seen in Colorado. Highly recommend this hike." — paulmedved • Jan 23, 2013
"Hiked YMCA Mountain and traversed the south rim of the Royal Gorge to Baldy Mountain. Amazing weather for January. Several inches of snow on northern slopes, but otherwise dry. The views of the canyon are spectacular. There are also many breathtaking views of Pikes Peak, the Wet Mountains, the top of Sangres, Grape Creek, and the Arkansas River.
Access is off the beaten path. Take Hwy 50 10.5 mi west of Canon City to Copper Gulch Road; 2.5 mi south on Copper Gulch Road to CR3A; 1.1 mi west on CR3A to CR341A; 2 mi to BLM marker 6100; if 6100 is open, 2.7 mi to 6100C; stay on 6100C to dead end." — paulmedved • Jan 8, 2013
"Great hike. Very warm and dry for December but amazing views of the Sangre De Cristo Range, Pikes Peak and the eastern plains. Parked at Bear Gulch 10 miles south of Canon City on Oak Creek Grade Road. Access via East Bear Trailhead (connected to the Tanner-Stultz Loop). Unfortunately the trail is very worn by ATV's but well worth the hike. Easy access to Tanner Peak from Curley Peak." — paulmedved • Dec 4, 2012
