"Stashed the bike at the closed gate since the road looked very overgrown. It was. Suffered through the densest gnat clouds I've experienced in southern california. The lookout is now just a transmitter and the true Cajon Mountain summit is a brushy ridge walk to another marginal view.
After suffering with the gnats all day, I decided to ride directly down to Hwy 138 and climb back up on Sawpit Canyon road which was a much less buggy route.
All in all very mediocre day. If it were up to me, I'd drop all of these from the HPS list." — edg • Aug 27, 2022
"The hike began shortly after Cleghorn Rd turned to dirt. I found a place to park and I set off on foot (since I didn't want to beat up my car). Cleghorn Road connects with 2N49 and heads up the ridge. As expected, it is a long hike up to the Cajon Peak access road (About 6 miles). Once on the access road it is another 1.5 miles to Cajon Peak Lookout. I continued on from there by backtracking a bit before finding the use trail for Cajon Mountain. It is a short climb from the road to the summit. The true summit has a register. Once completing the daily goal, it was a long hike back." — MikeTeeples • Jun 4, 2022
"A leisurely walk up a forest road. There was quite a bit of traffic, however. I saw maybe half a dozen cars, 4-5 dirt bikes and a family of four wearing gear and helmets that color-matched the dune buggy dad was driving. Still, the view of the Cajon Pass and the Western San Gabriel Mountains was worth the price of admission. Quite a beautiful day." — jimduvall • Mar 15, 2014
