"Solo day hike, 16 miles total, 8-hours. Hot day with high humidity but great views. Went for Mount Shaw after. Many of the trails looked as if they had not seen foot traffic in some time, ran into very few people." — Paddleout • Aug 29, 2015
"Cold and rainy. Started snowing pretty hard after we summited Big Ball. Out and back 5 hrs or so. Trail wasn't really packed but we followed the foot prints of who ever was there yesterday so thank you! Summit was socked in but we had some nice views on the way up and the way down. The Info on here is wrong. The summit is 2803 and its been tagged in the wrong locations on the west side of the Osipee range when its really in the southern part. Ive submitted the new info but who knows how long it will take to update." — Selrahc2nd • Apr 13, 2014
"It was a great day for a hike. The trails were a mix of snow, ice, and mud. It made for a interesting hike up in some spots. You have to cross the brook in a couple of spots which was challenging in a couple spots due to not having a bridge or rocks to cross on. I ended up making a temp bridge with a log. Worked well on the way up but by the time we came down the snow had melted more so the water was now running over the log. It made for an interesting hike, and soaked feet. The top was a big difficult due to the ice and snow. At some points while on top you'd go from walking on top of snow to sinking in up to your crotch, but hey it's hiking in early spring on a mountain so can't expect much less. It was a overall enjoyable hike. A few pictures along the way of the brook, and at the summit." — ndewitt84 • Apr 12, 2014
"Great hiking Adventure, that's what it's all about. So don't take my summit log as a complaint! First trip of the year in t-shirts with temps around 60. Beautiful day for a hike. The lower part of this trail is slow and steady and following a stream with plenty of falls and nice views, very enjoyable. Guide book says stream crossings are easy, well not this time of year! There are no bridges on this trail, and took a good half hour of negotiating for the first crossing. Most of the trail was mud, then we reached a good 2 feet snow for the rest of the way up. This made for a strenuous ascent to black snout. The views were great and the wind was blocked so the summit was a good resting spot. Attempted to hike over to Mount Shaw but the deep snow and more importantly incorrect signs for distance prevented us from making the summit. Will be back in the summer as this was a great hike all in all. Definitely a rough trail this time of year but an awesome adventure. " — tvanrosendael • Apr 12, 2014
