"Belgium. Cycled from our hometown Bruges to the Flemish Ardennes. Stayed at Camping Panorama and walked up this hill in the evening. The next day cycled on the Oude Kwaremont, Paterberg, Koppenberg, Stationsberg, Taaienberg, Eikenberg and Achterberg before heading back home. Some 200km in 2 days." — Pieter • Jul 21, 2022

"Belgium. A two day cycle tour through the heart of West Flanders with Judith, Stefanie and Gwendolyn. In the morning we start in Brugge. We cycle everything except for a gravel part with bigger stones near Torhout where we walk to avoid punctures. Near Ieper we rest on a war cemetery and near the halls and cathedral. The first day ends in a friend's garden in Wijtschate where we can put our tents. The next day we set out to cycle the Kemmelberg. We are coming from Kemmel and turn right onto the cobblestones. I keep going on low gear for a couple of metres but when it gets steeper I have to put a foot down. Gwendolyn keeps going and makes it to the highest point in our province. Judith and Stefanie are also walking. The way down is even steeper. We take a wrong turn and go down in the wrong direction. We make a detour around the hill when I realise I left my hat at the top on the statue to remember the fallen French soldiers of the first World War. I go back up alone without bags and run the last part. Exhausted I try to keep up with the others while we make our way back north with a stirring headwind alongside the river IJzer. We rest at the tower in Diksmuide before we make our fi..." — Pieter • May 30, 2020
"Belgium is such a pretty country. Back in the 90s, a lot of American kids spent at least one summer break in Europe while they were in college. When in France, I fell in with a crowd of French kids my age in Roubaix, and we made a day trip into Belgium to swim at the public pool in Kluisberg--or Mont-de-l'Enclus in French. (I waited at the border because I wanted to get a Belgian stamp in my passport, but there was no one in the customs booth.) This is right on the border between the French-speaking and Dutch-speaking regions of Belgium. Instead of swimming, I opted for a few hours of solitude. I took a trail into the forest and to the top of the hill. The hill had thick, pleasant woods, well-traveled paths, and a few modest views to the farmland below. It's a very low peak, but it's the only feature to break the horizon in that flat countryside. The photos are all cellphone shots of the old, grainy pics I took in 1990. " — briansnyder • Jul 21, 1990
