It was a beautiful sunny late August day. A dangerous patch of snow lingers in a gully about a mile up but there is a rugged trail detour that goes below it. We backtracked to that turn off after seeing that no tracks crossed the snow and scrambled up the unmarked detour. There is traverse of a steep slope just before wrapping around the mountain and taking the final switchbacks to the lookout.
