Solo. From end of public road at NT189093 where there is parking. I followed the Southern Upland Way to Croft Head. The zig zag path up Cat Shoulder, especially constructed for the SUW, makes for an easy ascent. After ascending Croft Head I returned on SUW to a little east of Rae Grain before ascending to the summit of Capel Fell. I followed a fence and wall to Smidhope Hill and White Shank. I went down Little Smid Hope (rather rough) to reach a forest road and back to the road end. There was nice weather and good views.
