On a Ramblers' Association hut to hut tour. From Gschnitztal we followed the path to Sandesjöchl (also known as Pflerscher Scharte). We dropped down 100m on the Italian side to join a path going westwards towards Magdeburger Hütte. Once due south of the summit of Weißwandspitze we went north up broad slopes to this summit. We descended the same way and went back east, deviating to include the summit of Hoher Zaun. We returned towards Sandesjöchl but took the path to Tribulaun Hütte (Rifugio Calciati al Tribulaun) for the night. The warden was very insistent that we stayed only one night and returned to Austria the next day. We had seen armed soldiers patrolling the border.
