7th ADK High Peak. We combined this hike with Lower Wolfjaw. While on the summit of Lower WJ we had a good view of the thunderclouds rolling in. By the time we reached the summit of Upper WJ, lightning was in clear view, so we did not stay long on this summit which is smaller and covered with some tress but does provide for some good viewpoints. Many people move on to Armstrong after this summit. In fact, we were passed 2x by a group of 3 older ladies and a single older man who questioned our not going on to Armstrong. A humbling experience for sure! We questioned adding Armstrong ourselves - but instead returned back, taking the Wedge Brook Trail (33) to West River Trail (28) so as to avoid another ascent and descent of Lower WJ in the storms. The trail from Lower to Upper WJ is very steep in spots. The wet/muddy rocks provided for a slower ascent and descent. There was no benchmark on the summit. The trail back was again extremely quiet and once we split off from Lower WJ we were alone and did not encounter any other hikers. The trail back provided for some nice streams, waterfalls and bridge passes. This could be a good place to fill up on water if necessary.

Highlights: the return of the sun after several hours of rain, storm, downpours and walking down Ausable Road feeling a sense of accomplishment and achievement for the day.
