The Turmkogel is a mainly forested peak on a ridge between The Rosskopf and Fedalpenhorn.
From Niederau, we took the cable car to the Markbachjoch ridge, here we walked W for a short time, then SW through forest and into open alps on trail 2. After 2 kilometres we passed a cheese farm, then onto a small chapel at a trail junction -the Horlersteigl 1475m. From here we walked up the woodland path to the Turmkogel 1648m, then passing several small lakes in the woods, we dropped back onto trail2 approx 1km further along the ridge. We walked uphill for 15 minutes then we left trail 2 to climb steeply up the ridge to the summit of Fedalphorn 1923m. Good views all around. We wanted to continue to the next peaks on the ridge, inc Schweiberghorn 1990m and down to the Auffach valley; but not enough time, so we returned the same way, with a small detour to the fedalm cabin for refreshments.
