8.6.2021~Charleston Peak #111, 9th in 2021 with Trail Canyon Overlook side trip. 13 miles, 5,000’ gain. My last 100 summits tightens my record to 100 Chaz summits in 6 years, 1.5 months. I’m super proud of this… I explored Old Ski Tow canyon yesterday by happenstance. Echo lot was Closed due to roadwork and I wanted to use it for a Redemption Ridge Chaz ascent. I ended up faced with an exposed crux near a giant dry fall only .5 miles into the canyon. It was sketchy and I climbed around in different spots trying to figure out the safest climb. Big rocks came loose, I got spooked and tucked my tail between my legs and just did A nearby peak. Being alone, a fall would be a bad outcome for me. Today I came back with more info on the correct spot to climb & a strap of webbing. The crux is about a 20’, exposed mild class 4 with a slanted overhung awkward pitch. I lassoed my webbing around a Horn and pulled myself up the creepy section. My adrenaline was so amped that I was too nervous to reach back down and retrieve my rope and swiftly I crawled up the rest of the way not looking back. (I will retrieve the rope soon) The rest of the trek was bushwhacking up to TC Overlook and on up The relentlessly steep Redemption Ridge route (Jim Egan Route) to the SLTrail. I was exhausted, ate & napped on a log for a spell before continuing on to Chaz. I lounged on the summit, and took my time scampering down SL enjoying the beautiful day, reveling my accomplishment and enjoying the cool mountain breezes.
