Soco Bald is in Mile High Campground. We parked at the office and got permission to walk in the campground. As we reached the peak, we saw a man setting a small carved stone on the roots of the tree on the peak. He said it was a memorial to his wife. They had a tradition of staying in the campsite by the peak, and he was continuing their tradition in remembrance of her. A tear came to my eye as I thought of that couple on our descent from the peak.
