We looked at 3 different routes that we found and put together a route that looked good to us. I see some possible changes I would make if I was to ascend from Pine Nut Camp again. If I was to take the southern route again that is on the attached track, I would stay in the wash that we were following before we started up the ridge final east ridge line. From above it appeared to be the better route. It will be steep on the final push to the Sheep Peak, but so is the ridge line we took. The exit route we took would also be a good ascent route. At Pine Nut Camp there is a wash down below it. That wash runs all the way up to the saddle between Sheep Peak and North Sheep Peak (Peak 9678). It's an easy, beautiful hike up the wash. There is a large waterfall that you can easily get up by scrambling the rocks to your left, if you're going up. The last little bit, before the saddle, will be steep and a little loose, but no matter what approach you take it is going to be the same. I have done 5 different routes to and from Sheep Peak and really enjoyed our choice of the exit wash on this adventure....which once again, could be used as an approach route.
