Began the trip from the horse thief state park trailhead off of highway 67. Follow the ring the peak trail clockwise ( north) till the junction with Oil Creek. The trail is marked with cairns up to the saddle. One at the saddle it’s a short scramble south to the summit. Weather was terrific. Clear blue skies with visibility of 20 miles or better. Honestly I believe the summit provides better views than pikes peak. Temperatures where in the low teens at the trailhead with temps in the single digits once in the tree line following the draw upto the saddle. We had a snow fall New Year’s Eve so there was enough snow equmulatiom to use my altia Hok ski shoes up to the scramble. Snow depths varied from a dusting where wind swept to waist deep.
