I hiked Sawtooth S on the last day of a 3-day backpacking trip along the PCT in the Owens Peak Wilderness. This is a tough hike up the forested ridge followed by a short scramble to the top of the summit block. A little bushwhacking through oak, but it can mostly be avoided. Unobstructed 360 degree views of the entire region from the top. Register goes back to 1966 with fragments that go back to 1957.

After, I hiked down to Chimney Creek CG looking to hitch a ride back to my car at Walker Pass but found the CG closed and deserted (on Memorial Day! Damn BLM...) After waiting for about an hour with no luck I grabbed by pack and hiked about 3.5 mi north along the Chimney Creek Trail. It's a little overgrown, but can be followed without too much trouble to an open meadow and cow-camp. From there, a dirt road leads to Nine Mile Canyon Rd where I was able to hitch a ride with no problem. An excellent adventure!
