Hiked Appalachian Trail from Horse Gap to the peak of Sassafras Mountain. Gina turned back before the first overlook. The peak looks totally different with bare trees in winter than the last time I was here ducking under leafy branches to find the highest point off trail. After my first hike here on the green tunnel side, I learned about the overlooks on the other side, so today I enjoyed them along with peeks through the bare trees at other peaks on both sides of the ridge.
