Point to point traverse of San Bruno Mountain on good trails. Got a quick BART train from Powell St to my start at South San Francisco Station. Accessed the hill by a little ‘dog walkers’ path slanting up steep grassy slopes from near the junction of Dolores Way and Hillside Boulevard. Soon joined a wide ridge trail up to the summit area which has various transmitters and a service road. To bag the actual summit a short scramble up then along the perimeter fence of the top installation was needed. The shortest way down goes off clockwise on the Summit Loop Trail, but I extended the day by going anti-clockwise to enjoy a pleasant easy scenic trail down into eucalyptus woods then gently up again. Whichever way, nb the northwest end of the summit road is a total no-go area due fencing, locked gates and dense scrub. Instead remain on the Summit Loop Trail keeping an eye out for where the west ridge descent path takes off (easily missed) to lead steeply down to Royce Way. Chester St and B St slope down to finish at Colma BART station.
