Getting to the mountain takes a lot longer than the hike. To get to the mountain, exit I-25 at Pecos and head to the small community of Rowe. Turn onto NM-34 which heads up the mountain, then turn onto forest road 326. FR-326 is signed but the sign has been shot up so is hard to read. FR-326 is not maintained so a high clearance vehicle is necessary assuming dry road conditions. You will need a forest map to navigate the road network. I stayed on FR-326 for over three miles then turned onto FR-87 which is marked by a brown fiberglass marker. Stayed on FR-87 then switched to an unsigned forest road as I neared the peak. This final road required going through a stick fence gate which heads to the northside of the mountain. The hike involves some thick sections of forest but is short.
