I always wanted to hike the "Hawaiian Pyramid" aka Pu'u Heleakala. Actually it is a view to the pyramid from heleakala.
We started early right after sunrise, to beat the heat on the west side. There is not really a legal access, but we the help of a local friend we could manage to head up the mountain. The first 1.2 miles we gained 1700 feet to the top of Pu'u Heleakala, then continued towards Palikea. How we got closer, more overgrown it got with some rock scrambling and the last 1.5 hours were all bushwhacking until we reached Palikea after 4.5 hours. (Actually the real peak was just one hill over like 200 feet away, but we didn't realize). Continued on Palikea Trail which lead us to a private neighborhood, and we walked out the last 5 miles on concrete.
