On a Waymark Holidays trip led by Tony Rogers. We all left Refugio Odriozola and walked to Cabaña Verónica. This is very small and of metallic construction – it looks out of place. There was fresh snow on the ground. We started on the SE ridge of Pico Tesorero (2570m) and came to some difficulty. We traversed right towards the ESE ridge, but instead of joining it, as I thought we should in the conditions, Tony led us leftwards to rejoin the SE ridge route. We continued up the SE ridge. It was cold. There was one rather exposed part near the top where Tony sought my advice. I went to the summit and back and reported it OK. Most reached the summit but some did not do the awkward bit. After descending a bit we found a cut off route to the ESE ridge route, which we took. Lower down Rhona Fraser and I left the party and went up right, and then back left easily to gain the summit of Pico Tesorero. The route was marked by a few cairns and cans. It was good that Rhona had made the summit. On the descent at point 1960m (junction of path and track) we took the miners' track southwards and westwards. We visited several tops to the north of the track, including the highest at 2105m. We climbed up the highest point of Cuetos de Juan Toribo (1897m) on the way back to Refugio Odriozola.
