This time Josh and I came in farther east. A decent gravel road heads south-ish from rte 95, and splits just before the mountains; the right fork is what I took in 2010, and heads to Timber Springs. This time we continued left (east) instead, on an increasingly unused road that faded to a two-track about where we parked (I could have driven a bit farther, but the "road" was very hard to discern; I was in a cherokee trailhawk with skid plates and larger-than-stock LT tires). After we started uphill to Peak 8172, I realized I had to slow down or bust a gasket, so I urged Josh to go on, and I would skip DeadHorse for a direct route back to the car.
