Had an unexpected day off, so decided to go hike this ridge which is very close to my house. This is the highpoint of the ridgeline & I wanted to get up there & possibly head further out the ridge. I parked on the Lava Butte Road & headed up an atv trail to the base, then made the short hike up. The views from this peak are spectacular over the Rainbow Gardens. This area is so geologically diverse & colorful. From the top, I headed across the ridge to Pauleen Peak. There is another unmarked peak on the way which also had great views. Pauleen was neat & had good views, but not as good as the others. There is lots of mudstone on Pauleen & if you look carefully, you may find fossilized prehistoric animal tracks. I found a nice group of bird tracks! I considered going to Hummel as well, but I could see there is an easy trail up & there seemed to be lots people over there, so opted to get back home to my painting. I really enjoyed the hike & views!
