"A more detailed trip report since there is not a lot of beta on this summit out there: Planned this for a stop-over in Dubai on my way to Tanzania. Rented a car at DBX and stayed in Ajman. Woke up early for a roughly 2.5 hour drive to the trailhead, using the driving map found on Everytrail and basically dropping a pin in my GPS on the unnamed road. The road towards the peak was in amazing condition and they are actively building it. It was completed to roughly the saddle with the 1500m summit with the communications tower. From there I hiked the rough 4x4 road several hours to the summit, using basic topo maps I printed off google. The road eventually leads past the Sheik's summer home, which may be why a lot of money is being dumped into this remote road. After the Sheik's home the road becomes worse, but the summit is not much further and can be hiked cross country easily. The true high point of the UAE is actually the western false summit of Jabal Bil'Ays, and a summit cairn marks this. An international boundary marker lies just east of the true high point, and the true summit lies within Oman, which I of course tagged. "Drove with my son up the fairly new Jebel Jais road, to the flat camping area.
Parked there around sunset time and walked the steep, powdery red dirt road toward the Sheikh's place and the summit. I carried quite heavy for the night's camping, my 6 year old son trotted ahead with a camelback.
Did second half in the dark, but once you reach around the ruler's place there's a bit of lighting around a small runway and later a stone/ concrete walkway from his house all the way to the high point in the UAE, with a large concrete majlis sitting area.
We pitched camp on a flat spot and hiked the nearby summit the next morning (see image). We crossed the oman border and hiked up to the highest point. The cliff offers a spectacular vantage point toward the RAK coast.
I hiked late because Dubai was still very warm, but this altitude gave us a good chill.
It's a shame it's fenced off now. I would like to go again.
