An actual 'summit' is hard to find at Tomewin as it is more a continuous ridgeline than peak.
None-the-less, there is a rocky escarpment view point to be found amongst the overgrowth on the way to the little known 'Hanging Rock' bushwalk. A great morning walk on the Southern Gold Coast / Northern NSW border. Only 15 minutes from both Currumbin Valley and/or Murwillumbah.

The trail head has to be the cattle grid at the NSW/QLD border crossing, parking at this point is not easy around this area, try down the road a little on the QLD side.

Begin on the QLD side of the border fence and follow the council/utility access road 'East bound'. This is only a short walk of around 3+ klm from the border crossing, flat and undulating you follow the fence the whole time. Two thirds of the way along, keen eyes will spot some plastic sheath on the barbed wire, climb through to the NSW side and scramble up the steep rocky outcrop, carefully gain a foot hold as the vegetation clears to show a nice escarpment drop off point with good views to the south/east and west over the Tweed Valley.

Climb back down and Continue east as before following the QLD side of the quarantine fence. The track changes noticeably to sub-tropical rainforest. Continue on as the hanging rock is directly on the fenceline and you do not have to take any turns off the fence to find it. Navigate a tricky switchback/detour area downhill slightly just about 50 metres before the rock. Don't be surprised as the overgrowth hides the rock from sight until you are right up on it. The Hanging Rock itself is quite an unusual balancing cantilever style volcanic formation. It is unknown at this point if any rope climbers have scaled the rock, I am sure it is likely at some point in time.

It only took about 45 minutes to find the Hanging Rock from the border crossing, and less time to return.

Enjoy Outside. BB
