A very slow, long hike trying to hit several peaks in one afternoon. The weather was nice from a recent thunderstorm, but got hot towards the end. The Wichitas are at their absolute best in terms of wildflowers because of the recent mild weather and large amount of rain. It was like walking across a vision of what the prairie once was and could be again. Use tons of DEET on the refuge now - the ticks are wicked awful. The bluestem and other grasses are about at the height where bushwacking will be impractical.
