After a tough outing on Conness/North the day before, I was looking for an easier day. Mt. Gibbs West Ridge seemed about right. CA120 was still closed at Tioga Pass so I had to make the 1.5 mi road walk to the usual trailhead. A straight forward and enjoyable ridge walk through forested slopes and over compacted talus. Large patches of snow were mostly avoidable, but a few inches of fresh powder made the talus a little more slippery and usual. Weather was poor for most of the hike up, but the clouds broke just after I reached the summit, making for some dramatic views of Mt. Dana and the Yosemite High Country.
