I gave Feli a list of a few Kane peaks that I had on my mind. I was hoping she'd agree on Aylmer since the seasonal restrictions were coming July 10 and I didn't want to walk the entire approach. She and I were of like mind and we left Calgary bright and early hoping to avoid any thunderstorms. The bike in took just over an hour and then we took the trail (left fork) towards Aylmer Pass before heading up the avalanche gully. On the way up we stayed close to the ridge and ended up doing the sketchy downclimb. Then we made our way up. Weather was starting to come in, so summit views were a bit more limited, but we did it and headed back down. On the return, we avoided the crux and traversed a number of remaining snow slopes back to the col. We opted not to go to Aylmer Lookout and just retraced our steps. The mountain bike ride back was a bit slower since we had to push up the one big hill. We also had an incident: my bear spray cannister somehow fell out of its holder onto the ground and perforated. It nearly choked us. I ultimately had to empty it by spraying it into the woods, then wrapped it in a plastic bag to seal in the leaking spray. I carried it out in the waterbottle cage of the bike and made sure Feli went first just in case! Later that night I used the leaking canister as a skunk deterrent lol.
