Feeling a little under the weather today, so I decided to do some easy local hikes so that I don't overdo it. I pass Mormon Batallion Mountain every time I go up to Angeles Crest Highway. This is the first time I stopped here rather than going to Angeles Crest Highway or anywhere else. There is no parking near the mountain, unless you decide to pay for parking at Glen Helen Regional Park. Since I am never up for the paying for parking option, I parked in the dirt on the side of Glen Helen Parkway on the other side of Interstate 15 (southbound side). From there, I walked to Clearwater Parkway and made a right. I looked for use trails going up the slopes. After spotting some, I stepped over the guard rail and descended to a dirt road. The dirt road meets a dirt bike trail which quickly elevates to the ridge. On the ridge, it meets the dirt road that leads up from Glen Helen Regional Park. I turned right and followed the road to the high point, which is the summit of Mormon Batallion Mountain. I found no markers on the top, as the dirt road basically goes right over the top. With the many intersecting trails, I formed a semi loop on the way down to Glen Helen Regional Park and back to Glen Helen Parkway. I then continued on the not too exciting road walk back under the freeway and over to the parking area.
