We had originally intended to climb this via the path that leads to the refuges below Cima del Monte. However, we ended up leaving the car on the hairpin on the spur of the mountain itself, and although we had a vague idea of joining that path on the ascent, we didn't in the end. And if we would have tried harder, we would have come to grief as although it looks like it runs along the valley, it is more on the side of that hill (we took it on the descent) and crossing the valley would have been very difficult. So we followed the track up through a farm (just before this - the "rota laser dies" sign - is the path that takes you to the crossroads to the path mentioned above). This extend roughly eastwards up the ridge before veering off to some clearings. From here we lost the path somewhat and climbed back up to the crest, switching to the east side of it and climbing Filaro, under the long exposed rock of its ridge. Here approached the pass between Filaro and Monte Favitozzo. Short climb to top of Filaro, and then back down to Vallecupa and back again. The summit of Filaro is very pleasant. From here we found the red and white signs that led us very steeply down the north side to the statue of the Madonna and then to the first refuge. We were really pleased to have taken the milder ascent, even though it had no clear marked path. Before descending to Capanna de Francisco, we climbed the easy couple of hundred metres to Cima Del Monte. We back tracked and descended very gradually on the side of said hill, eventually coming to a junction. Here we took the small path, curling around the bottom of Filaro ridge back to car.
