Climbed this to get a taste for the terrain and conditions. Went from roundabout at south, up to the col slightly east from path marked on map, which I didn't actually see. At the top of the col many people have used the stones to write their names on the floor. Quite cute. I didn't, being a bore. From here along the ridge to the top. At the top was visited by three or four ground squirrels who are obviously very used to people having a snack when they reach the top. I didn't have anything to give them, but just getting my water out of my bag had them bounding all over it. Then descended to the east, this was much steeper and harder going. Don't recommend it when there is the easier route to the west. Very barren, arid and dusty. Will clearly be pretty breezy on the higher hills.
