A short outing in champagne country en route back to the UK, before an overnight stay in Reims. ALT remained in the car park in Verzy, from where I began this hike. After a false start while still getting my bearings, I worked my way uphill through the village by various streets and lanes to the forest edge, taking a path steeply up the escarpment to join a forest road. I followed this in a generally southerly direction, diverting onto a path deep into the forest. The area was flat, but the highest point (Pt. 288m) appeared to be in a small vegetated clearing occupied by a dwarf beech tree - no views. To return I rejoined the forest road, following it north-west to a car park, then taking the D 34 road north back down into Verzy and the waiting car. Cool and cloudy at first, but breaking to sunshine later. Solo.
