Traverse of Hanmer range from Jacks pass west to Miromiro via Mt Captain. Turned north and crossed mt scaife before dropping into cow stream and doing some undesired canyoneering in the dark, before reaching cow stream hot pools and walking out east up edwards river and peters valley and cycled back to jacks pass.
In hindsight continuing along ridge to mt Douglas and dropping down spur directly to the hot pools would have far more sensible,thus avoiding waterfalls,rapids and a sawcut canyon section.
Overnight trip, 43 kms, 2350m total elevation gain.
