The Sawtooth Mountains are west of the small community of Datil just north of US-60. This area of the Sawtooth's is accessed via FR-6A which is signed between mile markers 65 and 66. FR-6A is a good wide road. To get to Lone Mtn requires taking FR-312 which is a high-clearance road. It's not signed from FR-6A. FR-312 heads directly towards the mountain going around the northside which also happens to be the side that provides easiest access to the summit. No trail so its a bushwhack up a steep slope. Nice views to the south. Hiking distance is 8/10 mile RT with an elevation gain of about 550 feet.
