This outing is just a long hike in the summer but should not be underestimated in the winter. The summer trail crosses a wind loaded avi slope at one point. I added some extra distance to avoid this slope. The steep ascent of "Big Hill" could be dangerous in some conditions. There was little snow and it was hard packed but I was still a bit nervous. Snowshoe crampons did a fantastic job on the way up. Real crampons would be useful for the descent. The vicious wind made hiking on the ridge crest difficult. It was certainly well below -30C with the windchill. I decided to forget about the 4km ridgewalk towards Volcano Peak. It was not a feasible objective on the given day. This area seems to be particularly wind prone with strong wind most of the time.
