Day 3 of a walking holiday at Bassenthwaite. A dull morning started with thick cloud on the higher hills, so we decided on a traverse of some of the lower hills in NW Lake District. Starting at a car park at the W end of Whinlatter pass, we dropped down to Scawgill bridge near Spout Force waterfall, then walked steeply up the slopes of Graystones at about 350m we traversed to the adjacent lower summit of Kirk Fell (Lorton). This is a grass summit with extensive views towards the coast and NW lake district fells if the cloud lifts. We continued our walk onto the neighbouring hills of Graystones, Broom Fell and Lords Seat.
