Who would have thought my latest Peakery Pickoff would be in northeast Indiana? Well, it was. Hell Point is located inside Pokagin State Park, and I gave it a try while staying nearby. It was a pleasant early evening for a hike, and it wasn’t too crowded. I took Trail 3, which makes a loop through Hell Point. The trails are in excellent shape, generally 2-4 feet wide. Other than when the trail goes by lakes and wetlands, it is mostly shady and wooded, with many hickories and oaks. One way, the trail takes you up a 84 (?) step stairway with landings; on the other side, it meets the boardwalk to the Pointbat grade. Not too much view from the top, but the forest/wetland scenery is lovely. Mostly fairly easy hiking with some more challenging sections. No scrambling needed. A great experience!
