We climbed the Helderberg, West Peak starting at Helderberg farm. It was quite a cool morning with mist covering Helderberg when we started climbing. The wind was blowing quite hard on the north side of the mountain but luckily most of the hike is on the south side. The cool weather made it a very nice hike. It is a beautiful time of the year to hike, because we had good rains so the fynbos were lush and we saw bountiful Proteas throughout our climb especially the last kilometer before you summit West Peak is just beautiful. We did not have much of a view when we sumitted because of the thick mist, but when we started making our way back the strong wind did start clearing out the lower mist/clouds which gave us spectacular views of Strand, Stellenbosch and False Bay. We took the 4x4 road on our way back, and made a slight "detour" when walking back to Helderberg Farm, but overall it is fairly easy to find the right paths.
