Since I was limited to 2WD, I decided on a different route for the first half of the hike. I drove up Alamo Rd. from Wenden, and parked right at the entrance to Bonanza Rd. I hiked in the dark for about half an hour, and made my way straight west across the desert to the end of the ridge. I wrapped around the ridge and met with a road there, which I followed for about 1/4 mile. I then left that road and made my way northwest across the desert and several washes to meet up with the standard route - the road that comes from the south. From there I took the usual route up, got to both high points, and then headed back down. I went a slightly different route on the way down, but it worked, and I met up with the road again. From there I pretty much retraced my route back, completing the round trip in about 5:25. It ended up being 15.4 miles, and I enjoyed the route and the off trail in the dark.
