On a weekend trip to the Lake District, we started from Seathwaite Farm in Borrowdale on a bright sunny morning. We headed W steeply up the waterfall path of SourmilkGill. Then up a rough route to the summit of Base Brown 2120ft. From here we headed down the wide ridge and rejoined the main path for the ascent SW to Green Gable 2603ft. Green Gable stands in the shadow of its bigger neighbour Great Gable but is a good viewpoint. We dropped down to Windy Gap, then scrambled up the steep rocky slopes to the summit of Great Gable. Here the cloud descended. We dropped to the viewpoint at Westmorland Cairn, but the cloud didn't lift. We returned via Styhead Tarn. The walk back down the valley was a bright sunny evening!
