After checking out of my lean to in Elmore State park, I became a day user and went to the Fire Tower loop trail. This trail is heavily trafficked in both clockwise and counterclockwise direction. We were 5 in the tiny cabin on the top of the Fire Tower.
Of the 4 summits that I made during this trip, this certainly the most scenic one. Getting there could be tricky. I accidentally wander off the trail and make a u turn without realising it until it became obvious that I was loosing too much altitude. According to the map, I could never go down more then the distance between two level curves. As soon as I have doubt, I check my GPS and confirmed the bad news.
This Fire Tower is quite high, and from it, we can admire both the colours and Lake Elmore.
I recommend this hike to everybody, even those who have no interest in the Challenge.
