I've had this area on my radar for some time. I decided to go check it out. I parked at an old, creepy abandoned hotel at Echo Bay & dropped down an old road to Echo Wash. (I later noticed that one can drive into the wash, but it's not very far to just hike it.) I crossed the wash & started up one of the ridges. I hit a few of the numbered bumps along the ridge. All have old cairns. I made my way to Echo Peak, which is the highest in this area. There was a geocache/register left in 2009. No one else had signed since it was left! He had left a camera asking people to take a photo & send it back to him when it was full. I'm guessing the hot summers have ruined the film, but I took a pic & put the camera back. This was a spectacular day! The clouds were so incredible & Gold Butte & the Virgin Mountains had lots of snow. It was incredibly beautiful. These hills are volcanic flows & are fairly easy to hike. You just have to avoid & hop on big boulders. I stayed up there for over an hour, despite biting wind & bitter cold, to watch the cloud show. I descended another ridge. I left some other area peaks for another day to give me an excuse to go back. Wonderful day!
