This was a last minute back up plan. I hadn’t done any research or read any trip reports prior. What made me curious was why is the mountain icon way off on the Peakery map. Now that I’ve explored some of the ridge and some online research afterwards I feel more confused. The only trip report is from 2007 and on a U of C website where the author states he made up the name and claims the elevation to be 2400M.
Also on my way up the south ridge at 2343M kind of near the map icon there is a pink PVC pipe register that reads Holy Cross South peak. Why here the ridge obviously goes up still.
At the top there are three bumps the first is an easy mound of rock where I’m thinking the UofC scrambler had topped out as it is about 2400m. But there are two Gendarmes just beyond along the ridge. I climbed the first one not all that difficult but slightly exposed. When I reached the second one I thought it looked difficult but doable and also probably not worth the trouble today. So I turned around, I was well above the 2400m. Still slightly confused but I’ll sign it anyway as it all seems made up to me.
