Includes all peaks along the 205.8-mile Tennessee & North Carolina sections of the Benton MacKaye Trail. It partially follows a route proposed by MacKaye for the Appalachian Trail. From the Tennessee border south of Big Frog Mountain, the Benton MacKaye Trail rejoins the Appalachian Trail across Fontana Dam, then heads to Mount Sterling before reaching its northern terminus. "Off trail from Forest Service trail commonly used by hikers to get to Stratton Bald. Did not do this hike today due to limited time. Strawberry Knob is a bushwhack but not to bad at the top. "Troop 246, 6 scouts, 3 adults, overnight campout and campfire on bald. Cloudy but cleared around 9:00 pm, bright moonlight and fog in the valley, temp in low 40s. Rain started 10:30 pm and continued all night. Some lightning and thunder with some sleep. Rain stops as we rise around 7:00 am and ready for our decent. Some breakfast. Made a false start leaving the bald but luckily we had placed rocks at the point we entered the bald. 1.8 mph up and 2.3 mph down.
